David Vasse, the principal of Sir George Monoux College

Education for 16-18 year old students has never been more important to the global economy than it is now.  The city of London needs proud and enthusiastic young people with strong skills for university study and the workplace, an unrelenting appetite for learning and readiness to collaborate with people and businesses across the world. Sir George Monoux College plays a significant role in that challenge.

We are a specialist sixth form college for students who want to make rapid progress towards higher education or higher skills jobs. We have created a very unique learning community at Monoux which enables our students to develop personal attributes and abilities alongside their academic or vocational qualifications.  We support students to do so much more than succeed on qualifications through a focus on, for example, communication skills, leadership ability and resilience in a complex world.

As you learn more about the College, as you start to get to know us, I hope that you will be inspired to make an application.  I hope that you will want to be a part of this vibrant learning community. And from the team here at Monoux you can expect:

  • A personalised study programme with a clear and coherent future pathway
  • Support and challenge from specialist teachers of 16-18 year old learners
  • A campus entirely focused on facilities and resources for post-16 learning
  • Individual support and mentoring to enable you to be confident in life and in your studies
  • Encouragement to develop and progress skills above and beyond the academic, whether through sport or community leadership
  • A College ethos that engenders well-being and respect and that connects people
  • Extensive preparation for your next steps, including the most competitive university places

I look forward to meeting you soon.  Meanwhile, I hope that you enjoy learning more about the fantastic opportunities that post-16 study will provide.

About Us

Sir George Monoux College is situated in the North East London Borough of Waltham Forest, on a single 17.5 acre site in Walthamstow.

One of the most established sixth form colleges in the country, there are currently over 2000 students at the College, all of them 16 to 19 year olds on full-time courses. Over 80% of the students come from minority ethnic groups living in the East London area. The College curriculum provision includes A Level and BTEC subjects and GCSE resit courses. In addition, all students have access to a wide range of sports and activities.

The College serves a wide catchment area and approximately half of its students live in the neighbouring London boroughs of Newham, Haringey, Hackney, Enfield and Tower Hamlets.
