On Thursday 24th November 2016, Sir George Monoux Sixth Form College hosted a 'Campaign For Social Science' event for high flyers, where students met leading Social Science experts to discuss social issues such as racism, identity, refugees and Brexit.
Dr Alessandro Lunato, from the Campaign for Social Science outlined the crucial role of social scientists. Dr Suki Ali, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science explored the complex subjects of racism, British and ethnic identity with the students.
Speakers included outstanding former students, Taban Mohammed, who fled from Iraq in 2002 and is currently studying for her Masters in Human Rights and Chinyere Ifemeni, who works with victims of abuse in Walthamstow.
This is a unique opportunity for high flying Year 10-13 students to work alongside leading academics and specialists in the field of social science.
Students and staff at the College were joined by pupils from George Mitchell and Leytonstone schools.
