The Curriculum

At Sir George Monoux College, we provide a diverse range of study programmes tailored to meet different academic needs. Our offerings include Advanced Level programmes, which cater to students seeking a higher level of academic challenge, and Intermediate Level programmes, designed for those aiming to build a strong foundation in their chosen subjects.

Advanced Level Programme

  • A-Level – We offer over 30 A Levels.
  • BTEC – We offer BTEC Certificates/Subsidiary Diplomas and a BTEC 90 Credit/Extended Diploma Programme.
BTEC qualifications are practical, skill and knowledge-based courses. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are linked to realistic workplace situations. There may be an opportunity to study an AS Level alongside your course.
BTEC Level 3 30 Credit/60 Credit Diploma -The BTEC Level 3 Certificate (1st year) is equivalent to an AS Level. The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (2nd year) is equivalent to an A level. These would normally be studied alongside an AS/A level programme.
BTEC Level 3 90-Credit/Extended Diploma - As well as learning about the sector skill area, you develop the skills and knowledge you need to start your career. You will also have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of the programme. This is a full time, 2-year course, which is equivalent to 3 A-Levels. This means that when you have finished, you can choose to go into employment straight away or go to university first.
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) - This AS qualification enables students to conduct research into a specific area that is relevant to either their academic or personal interests. It’s particularly worthwhile for students hoping to gain places on more competitive degree courses/areas of employment, since it helps them stand out at interviews. Students make the decision about doing the qualification at the end of their first year.
  • T Levels - We offer T Levels in the following Subjects: Digital Production, Supporting the Adult Nursing Team and Healthcare Science. These courses are designed with a 45 day placement so are ideal for students that would like to build a career in these areas.

Intermediate Level Programme

  • BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate with Progression to Level 3 - For some of our students a staged programme for the attainment of a BTEC Level 3 vocational qualification better meets their needs. You will start your programme by undertaking the one-year BTEC Level 2 Extended First Certificate. When you have successfully completed the Level 2 qualification, you will progress onto the Level 3 course, provided you have good attendance and have successfully achieved all aspects of the course at Level 2.
  • The BTEC Level 2 course introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification, such as the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit/Extended Diploma. The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate is equivalent to 3 GCSE grades A*- C and is a full-time course.
  • GCSE - Students who do not achieve C in English and Maths will be given the opportunity to retake these qualifications.
