We’ve been so lucky to have universities talk to our students to encourage them to think of their next steps.
Some of our Year 1 students were able to talk to Gwyneth Hamand from Gonville & Caius College about the best tips to strengthen their Oxbridge applications.
A representative from St George’s, University of London gave our future medics an insight into what their medical school application process will look like. The thought-provoking session made our future doctors think about the roots of questions they’ll be asked when interviewing for their role in medical school.
During Black History Month, we had a lecturer of English Literature from the University of Leicester come in to give our students an advanced-level view of themes and topics within black literature.
Our English students were also to join London Metropolitan University’s Big Writing Challenge workshop! Amy Collins helped our students begin to produce a short piece of creative prose that they will be able to take to bootcamp and perfect their work. We’re so excited to see how they do in the Challenge as the winner will see their work published in full on the Orion Publishing website.
Finally, King’s College let our students know about their K+ Programme. This is a two-year widening participation programme run by KCL that gives young people who need extra support the tools they need to get there. They offer taster days, student finance advice, parent and carer support as well as academic support for A-Levels. Students who complete the programme receive a 2-grade reduced offer on most courses at King’s College London and up to a £1000 bursary in their first year if they choose to study there.
