Welcome To Careers

The careers programme at Monoux College is designed to provide all students with the education, information, advice and guidance to help them make informed choices about their future career decisions.

We run various programmes and initiatives which aim to raise aspirations and support students to achieve their full potential whilst they are in college. Students benefit from a dedicated Careers & Employability Team who have a breadth of experience, and are based within college.

There is a focus on making all students aware of the opportunities that employment has to offer. Strong links and partnerships with employers provide the chance for students to network and experience a range of insight days and gain work experience.

Careers Opportunities

Careers Opportunities

Monoux College offers a wide and exciting range of work experience and employability opportunities. These include work experience placements, Work Experience Projects, Employer Talks and Workshops. These opportunities are a vital part of our students’ time at college, and will give them an excellent opportunity to develop their employability skills, networking and commercial awareness. The course our students choose to study will determine the length of work placement, and all Level 3 students will take part in at least one aspect of Work-Related Learning. One example of a unique work experience opportunity offered by the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG). Students spent the week learning about and writing their own theatre production, visited the renowned Lyceum and Piccadilly theatre where they received a behind the scenes tour of Moulin Rouge!

We have also provided our students with a range of opportunities to date which has developed their industry insight into a range of sectors and these have included:

  • Monoux students were selected by Channel 4 to undertake a focus group which informed the development of their youth programmes and initiatives.
  • Students attended Citi Bank, where they had the chance to undertake a Dragons Den style activity which included presenting a pitch for a business idea.
  • The students were offered a mentoring opportunity by staff at the prestigious Fladgate Law Firm in London where they received recognition and certificates of achievement.
  • HSBC invited students to visit their London office to gain insight from employees about Digital careers, as part of their continuation of their efforts to support women in STEM.
  • Students were invited to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Insight Day where they got the chance to have one-on-one conversations with civil servants and diplomats.
  • Monoux College was one of the institutions selected to have their students work with Société Générale in relation to a range of youth initiatives. This included the Société Générale Influencer Programme which included attending a serious of workshops and preparing a pitch day for senior members of the bank. Students have also worked with a range of the bank’s volunteers in relation to their personal statements, CV’s and Mock Interview Preparation.
  • Students attended leading Magic Circle Bank-Linklaters where they took part in a successful workshop with volunteers from the HR team. The session was centred around 'Human Resources (HR)' while tackling two scenarios, 'Recruitment' and 'Health and Wellbeing'. The groups engaged in a speed networking session.
  • Students were involved with "Addressing Young People's Perception of the Police" event at Amazon Web Services offices with the City of London Police and the London Met Police as well as various companies including Barclays, Wavemaker, National Crime Agency, Home office etc. The feedback included the fact that students were involved and happy to discuss difficult subjects as well as listen to others perspectives. They were very involved in the solutions that were presented and impressed everyone with their maturity and reflections.
  • SGMC students attended the Hays - "Navigating the Recruitment Process" event. The feedback included that students asked some very perceptive questions and were not scared to ask the relevant and difficult questions which meant that their confidence shone through. Hays were very impressed with the calibre of the young people who attended.
  • Students attended a day with the City of London Police event at their station in New Street where they also got the chance to attend a session on trauma related first aid. The feedback was that they were very impressed with our students and in particular their presentation and reflection skills. It was a long day and their enthusiasm didn't wane. They engaged really well with students from other Colleges around London and worked well in the teams that were made up of students from different backgrounds. Their questions were insightful and it was obvious that they were willing to open their minds to different views and concepts.

Futures Weeks

Futures Weeks

Our Futures Weeks give students the opportunity to explore career options and gain valuable insight into the world of work. Sessions with the Careers Team during this week will focus on improving employability skills, CV writing, interview techniques, networking and early careers advice. Also, all students have the opportunity to take part in a Skills Challenge during their Futures Week. This enables students to work on projects that have been designed by our employer partners to reflect day to day workplace challenges. The Futures Weeks play a vital role in students’ preparation and planning for their future, and making connections that will support them in their next steps.
